Using Unity
- Press the Super Windows Key or click the Ubuntu logo on the unity panel, and search Text Editor.
- Type in a paragraph that uses every character on your keyboard.
- Attempt to close the window, then select Save
- In the new window type in demo1.txt, Select your Home Folder and click on Save
- Select Home Folder on the unity panel.
- Select demo1.txt.
- Once it opens ensure that every character is displayed as expected.
Using GNOME Classic
- Open Applications->Accessories->Text Editor
- Type in a paragraph that uses every character on your keyboard
- Click on Save
- In the new window type in demo1.txt, Select Home Folder and click on Save
- Now open Places->Home Folder.
- Double click on demo1.txt.
- Once it opens ensure that every character is displayed as expected.
Verification
- Verify that the text editor opens.
- Verify that all keyboard keys are working correctly.
- Verify that the file can be saved and reopened correctly.
Terminal typing test

Using Unity

- Type in nano and press Enter
- Type in a paragraph that uses every character on your keyboard
- Press Ctrl-x
- Press y
- Type in demo2.txt and press Enter
- On the Unity Panel, Select Home Folder.
- Select demo2.txt.
- Once it opens ensure that every character is displayed as expected
Using GNOME Classic
- Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal
- Type in nano and press Enter
- Type in a paragraph that uses every character on your keyboard
- Press Ctrl-x
- Press y
- Type in demo2.txt and press Enter
- Now open Places->Home Folder
- Double click on demo2.txt.
- Once it opens ensure that every character is displayed as expected.
Verification
- Verify that the terminal opens correctly.
- Verify that text appears in the terminal correctly.

- Type in a paragraph that uses every character of your keyboard.
- Attempt to close the window, click Save.
- In the new window type in demo3.odt select your home folder and click on Save
- On the Unity Panel, Select Home Folder.
- Open demo3.odt.
- Once it opens, ensure that every character is displayed as expected.
Using GNOME Classic
- Open Applications->Office->LibreOffice Writer
- Type in a paragraph that uses every character on your keyboard
- Click on Save
- In the new window type in demo3.odt and click on Save
- Now open Places->Home Folder.
- Double click on demo3.odt.
- Once it opens ensure that every character is displayed as expected.
Verification
- Verify that LibreOffice Writer opens correctly.
- Verify that text appears in the word processor correctly.
- Verify that the file can be saved and reopened correctly.
